‘Cell River’ is a wall sculpture using CNC carving on wood. It was conceived in the midst of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic and responds optimistically to the dislocation and unease created by the virus. This work explores virtuality and reality; the rapid mutation of a virus coexists with life. It consists of a series of colourful, irregular shapes of different depths, which are contained in a single circular frame. It is as if mutated yet healthy new cells are jostling under a microscope. The individual parts coalesce in celebration of the diversity of the world.
