Andrew Chew of Hong-Gah Museum Visits the Studio

It was a great honour to welcome to Andrew Chew, chairman of the Hong-Gah Museum, to YEN TING CHO Studio!

Andrew Chew is the pioneer of the semiconductor industry and a role model for tech leaders dedicated to art and culture. Under his leadership, the Hong-Gah Museum has been a frequent recipient of the Taiwan Ministry of Culture’s Wenxin Special Award. The museum is committed to contemporary art, new media, public education, and community culture.

Prior to his visit, Andrew Chew watched a documentary of our public art installation at Taoyuan Airport Terminal 3. This sparked a profound discussion regarding the social and educational significance of art today. The conversation also touched on creating art through human-computer interaction. We discussed how--within the artistic practice of YEN TING CHO Studio--the "computer" in HCI is not merely technology or machine, but a medium infused with "human and perception." This philosophy is perfectly captured in the sculpture "Dancing Duo," a piece that caught Andrew Chew’s interest. It uses digital art as a medium to convey sensory perception and imagination.

We deeply treasure the opportunity to learn from a distinguished senior figure in the art museum world, and to engage in peer-to-peer exchange. Having an in-depth dialogue about artworks and methodologies was a truly invaluable experience.
