“Gateway to Taiwan: Island Tales” Featured by the Royal College of Art

Thank you to the Royal College of Art in London for sharing news about our public art in Taiwan’s Taoyuan airport. It's wonderful to know that the project is reaching an international audience.

Our initial intention in creating ‘Gateway to Taiwan: Island Tales’ was to use art to generate dialogue and showcase aspects of Taiwanese history, culture and society with a wide audience. We have strived to share the work internationally, including a lovely interview with Harvard Graduate School of Design in the US last year, press from over 40 Taiwanese media outlets, and this week's coverage by the RCA in the UK. Now that we have concluded the three-year project, each and every response is precious.

We are very grateful for the collaboration of the entire project team and airport-related units, which enabled us to create a truly Taiwanese story that is being seen by many thousands of domestic and international visitors each day. We are very happy indeed that the project is having a positive impact for our community and society.

For me personally, it is great that the project has connected back to the RCA. One of the tools used to create the artwork was developed during my doctoral research at the College. I am reminded too of the wonderful staff who inspired me during my studies in London. The project is complete but we hope it will continue to be shared and discussed long into the future.
